What Is Freedom? - The Way of Phi in Practice -

Dear friend,
In the meetings of light and shadow,
brought forth by the eclipse season,
I find things being revealed,
pertaining to the nature of freedom.
What is this illusive concept,
touted through the ages by many,
tantalising with its promises,
yet often looming out of reach.
It's easy to say that one wants freedom,
but to live it, as a daily practice,
is another matter.
How often am I offered to compromise...
How many times wouldn't things be easier,
if I but let go of my freedom.
The freedom to be me,
constantly assaulted by expectations from others,
from society, sometimes even from myself.
Reading someone else's story,
I quickly start comparing,
and every trace of freedom evaporates.
On the other hand,
imagining myself to be free to come and go as I please,
without honouring my commitments,
without honouring my voice,
the freedom I might imagine acquiring,
is but a shadow of the real thing.
For If I cannot hold true to my perspectives,
even when they are uncomfortable,
then my freedom is lost.
And if I cause you to you abandon yours,
we quickly get sucked into an illusion.
Still here,
Christopher
