Travelling with Synchronicities- The Way of Phi in Practice -

Dear friend of wisdom,
Have you ever experienced something that clearly couldn't be planned -- a coincidence -- that was so potent that if felt meaningful somehow, perhaps without knowing exactly why? Carl Jung calls these kinds of occurences synchronicities, and I think of them as guide posts on our journey that we are tuned into the truth of the moment.
For I deeply believe that we are surrounded by miracles and mysteries all the time. The only reason that we are not aware of them all the time is exactly the lack of awareness, which easily comes with focusing too intently on the Linear aspects at the expense of the Circular ones.
If on the other hand we focus too intently on the Circular aspects at the expense of the Linear ones, this tends to lead more to something missing opportunities to act or allowing things that we actually want to slip us by, as if we don't care about them.
But when we are on the surf board, which means being in connection with both the Linear and the Circular, and have some sense of balance, then synchronities start appearing. This can be quite awe-inspiring and perhaps even overwheling, which leads to losing balance. However, the better we learn to stay on the surf board and surf with whatever waves come our way, the more we can remain with the level of awareness that makes itself known through synchronicities.
The photo above is from my journey on day 0. I had just travelled with the night train from the south of Sweden. My plan was to hitchhike to my final destination, however, after a dedicated morning with my thumb out, I had to concede that this was the one time in my hitchhiking career when I wouldn't get a ride. So, I went to a local café and had a beautiful meeting with someone who had recently been to the place where I was going, which brought the place closer. Later in the afternoon I got on a bus where received this numeric message. Was this really a message, a sceptic might object. Wasn't it just that I paid attention at that precise moment?
Day 1 of production was the 11th of September. The date felt meaningful. 911. Emergency on planet Earth, it seemed to signal, and in many ways that is how I view our current predicament as a species. That is where this work begins. I don't just mean this time around, but in a deeper, more archetypical sense. Some kind of (spiritual) emergency seems to be a prerequisite to enter the practice of Dynamic Balance.
The starting point was a song about time. And over the next 12 days, many synchronicities occurred.
Like when I asked my producer friend Arvid if there wasn't any shaman in the village and he told me that there was indeed a medicine woman who turned up every now and then, but that she lived somewhere else. A couple of days later, as we had just finished recording my singing the darkest lyrics of the whole project, she appeared right outside the window. She later guided us through a most extraordinary journey which certainly contributed to the whole process in more ways than one.
And as day 13 came, and with that the autumnal equinox -- one of the two most balanced days of the year -- this chapter of the project came to a close in a state of balance. Indeed, this whole time wasn't just about producing the songs included in the book, but about living and practising Dynamic Balance, both individually and together.
As I left the village and started my journey towards the south, I felt a mixture of feelings. One of the most dominant was a longing to keep living in this way -- being tuned in to synchronicities. For whatever reason this has been easier for me while travelling than when not. And even if I know that both travelling and being at home are mind sets and feelings as much as concrete activities, this has been the case for 30 years now. Perhaps more.
But I hope, I wish, I intend to remain true to the moment and to myself this time around. To remain open to spontaneity and opportunities. To keep surfing even while present to the sense of stability or continuity that a physical home offers. After all, I wrote the book while living in a home which is very close to where I now live.
And to be able to document the path that I'm exploring -- as I'm exploing it --without diminishing my presence. To take a photo or record a short video in the moment, later to be shared (or not). This is now my learning edge.
How do you practise Dynamic Balance right now?
Still here,
Christopher
